This weeks Blogger Style is Kiersten from Bite My Heath Bar who comes all the way from New Jersey. I've loved her style since I first saw her featured on Big Beautiful Black Girls and I immediately became a reader of her blog. Check out her interview below!
If your style had a slogan, what would it be and why?
Eclectic and sexy, for a girl who is thicker than a Snicker...or Heath Bar!
Can you tell us little about your blog and what inspired you to start it?
My blog was completely inspired by Vintage Virgin and my little sister. When I first started following Jessica Virgin, I knew this was something that I had to do; her free spirit and candidness was so appealing, I knew I wanted to blog. Coupled with my sister's persistence and encouragement, I jumped into the blogging world and haven't looked back since.
What are your must haves in your wardrobe?
My must haves would have to be blazers and jackets, especially my motorcycle jackets. they are never out of style, plus you can wear them with jeans and a tee or over a girly dress for a hard & soft look. They are just so versatile!
Who or what inspires your style?
First and foremost, my mom inspires my style. When I use to see her get dressed up in the mornings, I was stunned by how effortlessly she slipped on her heels and threw her hair up. It was so empowering! Another style icon for me is the House of Dolce & Gabanna, because of the textured fabrics and the use of unexpected colors that clash so well together. I especially fell in love with their Fall/Winter 2014 collection; that has to be the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever seen!
Do you think there are fashion rules when putting together an outfit?
Of course there are fashion rules!! People of all shapes and sizes can adhere to them. One of the most pivotal rules is to dress according to your size! You can't be delusional...if you are a size 12, don't go grabbing a size 8 skirt! You're perfect already, so buy that perfect size 12 skirt and rock it better than any size 8 girl! Boom!
How was your style in high school compared to now?
My style in high school was only a bit different. I wasn't as experimental and I wanted satisfaction from others. But I guess it worked still, because I won Best Dressed my senior year and my school was huge! Almost 4,000 kids I'm talking!
Where do you shop?
I shop literally everywhere, from Wal-Mart to Nordstrom. You can find me in the corner of H & M or at the counter of my local Goodwill Store. My favorite shops are online though; ASOS, Zara, Urban OG and Topshop are my favs!
How often do you shop and does being a style blogger make you shop more?
I shop at least once a week. Usually more. Yes, I know I have a problem. No, I can't and won't stop. I'm not a quitter! Ha! What is one thing people would be shocked to know about you? Well, I grew up in a strict, traditional, Pentecostal Christian household, and for anyone who doesn't know, we don't really believe in women wearing pants. So I actually didn't start wearing pants until my high school years, when my family became a little more lenient. It infuriated me at the time, because I wanted to look like everyone else, but now that I grew to understand my faith, I do not mind. I understood the sacrifice and although I get wear what I want now, I honestly wear more skirts and dresses than pants anyway.
