Here in the Bahamas we produce so many things, which so many people fail to understand. Some think that we walk naked, wearing leaf skirts and hunt for our food. It makes me upset because, we are very cultured people, we even produced a Grammy award winning group called Baha-Men, you may know them by the song "who let the dogs out". Well anyway as you know we recently held Miss Universe 2009 here in the Bahamas and they featured in the fashion show segment of the pageant, two beautiful materials called Androsia and Bahama Hand Prints. Androsia Fabric is made in the largest island in the Bahamas, Andros. As you may not know the Bahamas consists of 700 islands and cays. The Androsia fabric is handmade and comes in many different fun, loving colors and patterns. The fabric ranges from $12-16 a yard. If you would like to purchase this fabric you can visit Androsia.com. The site also features how the fabric is made and you can also purchase clothing there. Bahama Hand Prints was another fabric that was featured in the Miss Universe Pageant. Bahama Hand Prints was established by two artists Helen Astarita and Berta Sands in 1966. To date Bahama Hand Prints create fabric from the original owners artwork, but they're always creating new prints to add to the fabric variety. Not only does Bahama Hand Prints sell clothing material but they have assortments of clothing, home decor fabric, and even accessories. To find out more about Bahama Hand Prints visit their website at BahamaHandPrints.com As you can see there are some pictures below from Miss Universe Pageant, My Family friend was one of the Bahamian Designers (Basheva Eve) who got a chance to design for the pageant. Enjoy! P.S The picture below shows that the pageant girls are wearing Androsia and Bahama Hand Prints Fabric. The Pictures compliments of Tim Aylen.
